About Course

Overview

This short course covers the fundamentals of cellular communications
systems (2G, 3G, and 4G) from the system architecture, access concepts,
and radio techniques, and takes a detailed look at the air interface, physical
and logical channels, mobility and resource management, and advanced
features.

Objective

  • Know the evolution of radio technologies from 2G to 5G
  • Know the similarities and differences between the GSM, UMTS,
    and LTE networks
  • Master the basic principles of multiple access technologies
  • Master the network structures and radio interfaces of the systems
  • Master GSM, UMTS, and LTE protocols and channels
  • Master the principle of GSM, UMTS, and LTE radio resource
    management
  • Master GSM, UMTS, and LTE novel technologies and features

 

Material Includes

  • Fundamentals of Cellular networks (Regulations, and necessary approvals)
  • 1. Arranging for two site visits to learn about the various components and network structure of the telecom site
  • - Different devices installed on the tower ( Antenna, RRU)
  • - Network elements in the shelter ( Rectifier, BBU)
  • 2. Simulations using TEMS software
  • - Demonstrate some network proceduresΒ 
  • - Demonstrate Call follow signalling

  • General knowledge of telecom fundamentals recommended
